NPTEL Course Registration Process & FAQS

NPTEL (funded by MOHRD) is presently the best project till date offering online courses, that to free of cost, and in case one needs a certificate then (s)he needs to give an exam for a fee of ₹1000.

Most importantly, the point to note is that there are several sites where one can acquire many technical skills, but this is a place where one can even learn his/her course related materials and in fact you won’t need any extra classes as well. Just it’s a matter of few hours that you need to spend on YouTube on your gadgets, which you might be very keen at doing. (5 lectures per week of just over half an hour each)

The following are the steps for course enrollment of NPTL


Step 1 – Go to url – https://swayam.gov.in/


Step 2 – Click on Sign in / Register tab


Step 3 – Login using any of option mentioned here

Step 4 – If you have a Google enabled email id, you can login through Google option. If you wish to
login through your company email id / non Google enabled email id then you have to create your own
login. Click on ‘Sign up now’, create your own username password, and provide your email id there

Step 5 – After login you will be directed to the SWAYAM home page, Click on ‘All Course’ tab

Step 6 – On the left hand side you can see the 'filter'option. Here, under that National Coordinator tab,
select NPTEL. On the right side panel, the upcoming courses will be displayed.

Step 7 – Please select the course you want to join. Within the course page, some basic course
information such as course tenure, exam date, Prof name and institute name etc. are given.

Step 8 – After going through the provided information, you may also choose to watch the INTRO
video. Next, click on the JOIN button. Next, fill all relevant information.

Step 9: IMPORTANT: Select profession as ‘employed’.

Step 10 – In ‘employment details’ select ‘yes’ in drop down if your employer is ‘Part of swayam
industrial association’. Here, please select the name of the company diligently.

Step 11 – Please go through the details given at the bottom of the page & Click on ‘I agree’ check-
boxes.

Step 12 – Click on SUBMIT / JOIN button. You will see that a confirmation message is displayed on
the course page. A confirmation email will also be sent to your registered email address.

NOTE: Please use the same email id throughout the course run. Use this email id to submit Assignments and register for exams.

How to select duration for NPEL courses

NPEL offers courses in different time duration. All these are valid but they differ in number of credits and importance. Most of the NPEL courses are 4, 8, 12 weeks. Any one can register in any course and get certificate but there is difference that dependents on number of weeks.

 

The 8 weeks / 12 weeks courses are best suited for students either your degree / B.Tech or some other courses. Because NPTEL offers maximum credits for these only. The flexibility of credit transfer is only available for these courses.

The 4 weeks courses are best suited for Employees who seeks to enhance their knowledge.

If the students selects the 4 weeks course and want credit transfer it is not possible.

So, in the students point of view 8 weeks / 12 weeks courses are best, if you don't want credit transfer only want to learn or improve subject then a 4 weeks course is good choice.

However, it is the learn choice. The availability of time decides which course is better.

What is the value of NPTEL online certification courses?

NPTEL (National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning), is a joint venture of the IITs and IISc, funded by the Ministry of Education (MoE) Government of India, and was launched in 2003. Initially started as a project to take quality education to all corners of the country, NPTEL now offers close to 600+ courses for certification every semester in about 22 disciplines.

Why was this initiative through the model of Open Online Courses?

Massive Open Online Courses (MOOC) is essentially an asynchronous teaching-learning platform, where the process involves use of pre-recorded lectures, resource video materials, lecture notes, assignments and quizzes, as content and self assessment at regular intervals. The learning, through scheduling of fixed time duration for completion of courses and, therefore, the simultaneous participation of teachers and a large number of students may be termed synchronous and is thus similar to a classroom, albeit on the Internet and being much larger in size.

NPTEL Online Certification

 hrough an online portal, 4, 8, or 12-week online courses, typically on topics relevant to students in all years of higher education along with basic core courses in sciences and humanities with exposure to relevant tools and technologies, are being offered. Enrolment to and learning from these courses is free. Following these online courses, an in-person, proctored certification exam is conducted and a certificate is provided through the participating institutions and industry, as applicable.
